Discoveries that have changed millions of lives have become a reality thanks to individuals who take part in clinical research. Volunteers are the true heroes behind medical advances.
Yale has hundreds of ongoing clinical studies for various conditions. None of these studies would be possible without volunteers who are willing to participate in clinical studies. Volunteers like you are the key to medical breakthroughs reaching the community and the public. Please consider participating in a clinical study and forming part of Yale’s tradition of advancing medical knowledge.
Why it’s important
Clinical trials help researchers develop new and better treatments. The information they provide is the only way for medical breakthroughs to reach the public.
Participants in clinical research are irreplaceable. The information provided by volunteers like you can’t be found even by using the most technologically advanced scientific gadgets. Volunteers are the only way for medical breakthroughs to reach our communities and the general public.
You may ask yourself, why should I participate in a clinical study? Here are a few reasons why: You may have a condition that is being treated adequately but still want to assist in creating new therapies; you may know someone, a family member or a friend, with an illness or injury, and want to participate in clinical research as a way of helping them or other people who have the same condition; there is no effective treatment for an illness or injury, or the existing treatment has harsh side effects; participating in a clinical trial could result in treatment options that otherwise would not be available; your community may be able to benefit from your participation.
We all benefit from clinical research. All the medications and therapies we use on a regular basis ranging from blood pressure medicine to asthma inhalers are available because of clinical studies that prove their safety and effectiveness. These treatments were made possible by volunteers who were willing to take part in clinical studies.
